'Hypnagogic', oil on canvas, 24 x 30 inches.
'My desire to peer beneath the surface and explore the mysteries of the human condition are common threads that tie my artwork together. I respond to the world around me, a face, a gesture, or light on a surface and these visuals suggest fragments of narratives that speak to the ineffable qualities of life’s experience
I grew up in a household deeply entrenched in Catholicism, old movies, art, and music. Reading was a mandatory activity. These influences compelled me to view life as a series of related yet incomplete narratives with an elusive read. The broader themes of love and desire, trust and betrayal, and youthful ignorance are a few of the subjects I aspire to express tangibly.
The human figure is the central focus of my art. I work from life and my photographs. Taking liberal diversions from my references, they are a vehicle to explore my ideas and communicate what moves me.'

Teenage Psyche Series:
'The “Teenage Psyche” series explored teenage sexuality, more specifically, the state of being of adolescents, and their experiences of coming into adulthood. My daughter and her circle of friends were my muses. Coming of age, at the tail-end of the feminist movement, I was taken aback by the highly sexualized images my daughter and her friends were bombarded with. They were now willing participants in their own exploitation. Cell phones and the internet were able to undo in a very short time, much of what the feminist movement had fought so hard to accomplish.'

Discord in the Garden Series:
The boundaries between male and female behaviors were blurring at an ever-increasing rate. All of this led me on a road of investigation into gender identity and human sexual behavior. The “Discord in the Garden” series of paintings grew out of the previous series and was inspired by a wonderful human who goes by the name of Starfish. He was gracious enough to allow me access to his colorful life.
In my current work, I am shifting focus and reacting to the world and people around me. I am more interested in exploring new ideas and ways of expression. The human experience will always provide me with interesting and provocative subjects.
